I wonder why the narrator is freaking out by the end. It's like watching a trailer with a french guy and his girl arguing in the background. Heh. Or did he just realize how awesome this movie looks, while trying to narrate? Then the female producer came in and started chewing him out for messing up the trailer voice over? That's like a whole different layer to the trailer.
Is he suppose to be Leo's voice and the girl is Ellen Page's character? Are they going to yell in the American version. So odd. On a side note I think Ellen Page is such a cutie ever since that Whip it trailer. I dig that trailer. It also has 2 songs in the trailer that I really dig. Weezer and Peaches! Can't go wrong.
Well anyways, Inception looks friggen incredible. I love that thumping techno sound at the end of the trailer that all action/thriller trailers since Transformers 2 have been using. Really this film looks crazy good. Look at the list of actors:
Leonardo DiCaprio (You'll have babies Rose)
Ken Watanabe
Joseph Gordon-Levitt AWESOME! This guy rules.
Marion Cotillard Not really big on her. But people seem to love her. I guess cause of that one film.
Ellen Page Cutie!
Tom Hardy(The new Mad Max)
Cillian Murphyer
Tom Berenger TOM FRIGGEN BERENGER!!!!!!!!
Michael Caine
Lukas Haas (Brick lampshade van guy!! Heh)
Throw in Christopher Nolan as the director... man, this movie couldn't get anymore awesome unless they threw in Jennifer Connelly's jigglies right smack dab at the end of the trailer.

And The Reaper Keeps a Swinging

Well at least Arnold Stang(For some odd reason they have a pic of Arnold Schwarzenegger on the right) lived a full life, so it's not really sad. It's just a passing of time. I'm still happy that there's still quite a few of them still alive from It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, only one of the greatest comedy epics ever.
I think I've linked video's o this film the most out of any other film on this blog. Heh. Really, greatest comedy EVER. I think Browser was just watching it a few days ago too. And being a child from my generation, there's no way you've never heard this guys voice before. He's been in a MANY toons.

Haven't seen quite a few of those. Never saw Man Bites Dog or WILD Strawberries. Gonna have to remedy that.
Oh and if you've never seen "Z", I'd click that sucker right now. It's the best political thriller I've ever seen.
Get your Netflix on.
Oh, and shout out to High and Low. Man, I love that film.

Brittany Murphy R.I.P. ?!?!

I met her when I was working on that Pepsi Smash show. She was super cute/hot and pretty cool. Man, a lot of entertainers passed this year. I guess the Reaper wasn't done yet for the year or the party is really happen' up in "who knows what land". It's going to be a long dedication at the Oscars next year. I really dug her tiny role in Sin City. That little line of hers " I'll cut your little pecker" always stuck with me.
There's a running joke on the movie sites, when someone passes, they always mention, "and Abe Vigoda is still dancing the cha cha" or whatever.
The tides will change the day Abe is taken from us. But times are a changing. Although Brittany was only 32.

This is a Shit Ton of Snow
So I tried to shovel... woahz. There's a shit ton of snow out there. I mean it's perfect for shoveling. It's nice and fluffy, BUT holy lord there is shit tons of it. It took me almost all of Weezer's "Make Believe" album just to shovel an area the size of one car. I probably could shovel the whole driveway, but I'll probably start running out of places to put the snow. Especially the huge space beyond the garage area. Man. We need a snow blower.
UPDATE: Saweet. We got someone coming to shovel the drive way. I think he's pricey though. We really need a snowblower. I hate being defeated by my driveway.

It's Shovel Time

Good thing thing this snow is the fluffy kind and early morning shoveling is the best time to do it. Time to shovel before it starts to melt and harden. Here comes the sun! better start.
Hurray for the first REAL snow storm in loooooong ass time. I love being an Eastie.

I Love Snowy Days, hot coffee and Movie Day

It's just nice and calming. It's a good reason to just sit around, nestle in and watch movies. I'm still buzzing from Avatar. Really, there is nothing like it. The effects are so mind blowing. The sound is well orchestrated. It just really is a well crafted film on all technical aspects including story. I mean the story in a technical aspect is truly well done. Obviously in my below review I believe there are things missing from the story that just keep it from being epic, but over all as a simple film that just aims to bring us to another world it really succeeds in spades. Really, I was mesmorized by every blade of grass, the mud on the characters skin, the sound of the amp suit's legs and just the overall atmosphere of Pandora. The creatures and biological world were magnificent. Cameron really brought us to the back of his brain. An amazing work of technological art splashed across the screen for a full 2 hrs and 40 minutes. Remember when you first saw the T-Rex in Jurassic Park screaming toward the screen and how thrilling that was? This... this is on a whole new level. I'd say story wise it's on the same level, but the sense of awe is unmatchable. It really is an amazing spectacle of technology. I really hope others get the detail right like Cameron did. There's just no one even remotely close to delivering something like Avatar. Now I feel like seeing it again.
Now I feel like watching LOTR for something epic.

Or maybe it's a good time to catch up on ol' Losty. 1 more month peeps! Should we have an end of the year Lost party?

The movie is ballsy in the sense of it's bold style (My Quicky Avatar Review)

Avatar. It comes down to one thing, what is it that YOU want from movies. Is it escapism? Or does it depend on your mood? What is it that draws you to this 24 frame world? Is there still room for classically told stories with big strokes of operatic scenes? Avatar is a type of film that solely depends on how cynical you are as a filmgoer. This isn't a film with ambiguous scenes which lend to discussion. It's a film in which the viewer is either along for the ride or not. It's a classic story of Good and Evil. That's it. The rest of the film solely lays with the viewer on lending themselves to this world Cameron created out of 1's and 0's.
That being said... I love talking film so here's my breakdown. I actually wrote this quick so that's a good sign. But since I'm a(this "a" in this sentence is a good example of shitty writing) terrible with grammar, please forgive the mistakes. I'll probably tidy up some along the way.
There's no spoilers. Here we go:
The things I didn't like about Avatar is the script's crutch on Jake's narration. The narration really sucked the life out of it. Some of it was obvious and some of it should have been shown to bring us up to speed on "who is Jake Sully". I wish we got to know and empathize with Jake before Pandora. The film could have had more weight if we saw the withering Earth and Jake's boredom. It also would have been a better lead up to Pandora. Avatar's script is definitely cheesier than Titanic. Avatar has these gigantic operatic moments, it's like an old school "big weepy". It definitely was a cowboy vs indians... IN SPAAAACE story. The Navi sounded too much like tribes people of the earth. The tribes should have spoke with different otherworldly phonetics. If they spoke in tones or noises the world would have felt much more real and otherworldly.
Other than that it was a great ride. I actually like the simple story. It was like a wonderfully told fairytale. It's simple nature has a charm to it. Yes it was cheesy at times, but it worked along side of the outlandish colors displayed upon the screen.
The 3D aspect of it was superbly used. Once we reach the battle in the woods, I really felt as if I was there ducking behind the branches. Right then and there made me realize how much I miss the orchestration of Cameron's action sequences. Kind of like that moment when the big boat, Titanic, goes down.
I still think Titanic is more epic though. There's something about the detail in the nature of the world with in Titanic that made it seem more epic. The detail of the workers on the ship with there day to day grounded the fictional story elements. The detail in the separation of the classes gave it scope. You really had a sense of the characters on all sides of the ship.
Here we really didn't get to really know much about the members of the tribe. We had many chances too, but he kept needling in his love and wonder aspect of the film. I think it would have felt grander if Jake saw Pandora with different tribe members. It would have shown us Pandora through different eyes and gave weight to the other characters inhabiting it. I kind of wish we had more understanding of a Marine's life on Pandora and what it meant to them. Rodriguez's character should have been interacting with other soldiers with the day to day. Seeing the Scientists running off to the jungle, while she sat with in the industry walls could have lent to a more realized world. But I will say this, Zoe Saldana owned her role of Neytiri. She was just fantastic. I can't wait to see the behind the scenes on Bluray. She was definitely the soul of the film.
Basically my main complaint is although the story is told on a grand scope and presented in a grand nature, it just missed the mark of being epic. I love the boldness of Cameron's design. There is definitely no other film that looks like it. It's definitely a worthwhile experience at the movies. There's just little things here and there that a better script writer could have fleshed out.
I think my favorite scene that really captures the essence of Cameron's film is when Jake flies his first dragon with Neytiri. It used the 3D aspect really well and it made you understand Cameron's simple idea to just please the crowd. In that sense it really grounded the film. The 3D wasn't forced, but immersive. It was a simple scene of a man and his dragon off in a world that is only left to dreams. That really made me smile. That's all one can ask for in a film of this nature. I really don't think he should make this into a trilogy. I think this works as a one time tale. I'd rather see new worlds and different themes from Cameron.
I'm glad that we had a year in which District 9, Star Trek, Transformers 2, Moon and this all felt monumentally different from each other. Each one had it's own rhythm and style. Whether you liked them or not, it's just wading the water for what's to come.
